Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with PPC, let me first discribe what it is.
PPC stands for Pay Per Click - an extremely popular form of (bid-for-placement) advertising on the Internet. You can find some type of PPC advertising on many websites, advertising networks, and especially on search engines.
PPC advertising is usually in the form of sponsored links and are normally text advertisements. These ads are usually placed above or very near to generic search results and the advertiser pays a set amount for each visitor who clicks on his link or banner and is thus directed to the advertiser's web page.
In essence, PPC advertising is about bidding for a favorable position within the search results and listings. This is done by advertisers buying (known as 'bidding on') keywords or phrases that are relevant to their products or services - the higher the bid, the higher the text ad will be in the search results, which in turn will result in more people finding the ad (and clicking on it) to go to the advertiser's websites (this technique is also known to some as "keyword auctioning"). The advertiser then pays the bidding price every time a visitor clicks on the ad.
You may have also heard of some of the following terms explaining PPC advertising:
·Pay per placement
·Pay per performance
·Pay per ranking
·Pay per position
·Cost per click (CPC)
It is relatively simple to set up a PPC advertising campaign. The steps usually involve the following:
1. Set up an account with a PPC advertising provider such as (Google Adwords, Kanoodle, Yahoo, FindWhat, GoClick, etc) and/or deposit funds;
2. Create a list of keywords or phrases which pertain to your product or service (these are the words/phrases you will bid on);
3. Create a catchy headline for your ad;
4. Write the actual ad copy (use keywords in the ad);
5. Bid on the ad placement for each keyword;
6. Test your urls to make sure they lead to the correct landing page;
7. Place the advertisement and monitor.
Pay Per Click advertising has many benefits making it one of the most effective ways of promoting your business 'online'. Some of the benefits are listed below:
· Getting your ads launched immediately. Once your account has been approved and funded, your PPC advertisements can be 'online' within an extremely short time;
· Your website will receive specific, pre-qualified, and highly targeted traffic. Because of your well-written, short and to-the-point ads your visitors are narrowed down into 'qualified' people who are actually looking for a specific product or service that you are offering and who are more likely to complete a transaction (by either buying your product or subscribing to the service that you are offering).
· Widen your reach. Depending on the amount of your bid, your ad could be placed at the top of the search results thus exposing it to much more traffic.
· Track your investment. Your PPC account provider usually offer tools to help you track how many clicks each keyword is receiving, how much you are spending on a daily basis plus other vital statistics to help you manage your PPC advertising budget.
Some of the things you should consider when planning your pay per click campaign:
1. Know your product. You only get a very small amount of space to tell searchers about your product or service. Your PPC headline and ad must catch their attention and briefly explain the benefits of choosing your product.
2. Stay within the budget. Set a daily or monthly budget and stay within it. It is all too easy to get into a bidding war to try to have your ad in first place and thus deplete your advertising budget in a very short time.
3. Bid smart. Learn how to bid properly by keeping an eye on the search results. Log into your PPC account often and check to see where your ad is in comparison to other ads. Remember you only need to be one cent higher than the next highest bidder to maintain the top position. If the second place advertiser decides to lower his bids then you can lower yours to just a cent more than his and still maintain a higher position.
4. Watch the bottom line or your Return On Investment (ROI). Always be checking your profit margin against your expenses. Know when to stop your PPC program or lower your bids, or even change your keywords.
5. Continue to search for new keywords. Do some keyword research, either by actually looking at existing search terms or by using online keyword suggestion tools. To get the most targeted traffic you must focus on specific keywords, not on general ones.
6. Maintain a professional-looking site. Your web content should be updated regularly and checked for spelling and grammatical errors and you should continuously check to ensure that there are no broken links or images that won't show. Your website should be simple, quick loading and designed in such a way that it will be easy for visitors to navigate. Ensure your contact details are prominently displayed.
Done properly, PPC advertising is an effective marketing tool that can maximize your return on investment.

**USEFUL TIP OF THE MONTH**
1. Messy Desktop
Do you find that you have too many icons on your desktop? You probably only have a few that you use on a regular basis, so why not keep the other ones handy, but out of site?
Well, this can be done simply by putting an additional folder on your desktop and dragging any infrequently used shortcut icons to it. Here's how:
1. Right-click the desktop and select, New, Folder.
2. Name the new folder "Unused Desktop Icons" (no quotes) or some other name that will remind you what is in that folder.
3. Now, you can place your mouse on any icon on the desktop, hold down the left mouse button and drag the icons that aren't being used on a regular basis to the folder. Most icons will move easily to your new folder, however, if you have been using one of the icons frequently then you may not be able to move it. Leave it for now and you will be able to move it eventually.
That's it. Now you have a desktop you can be proud of! If you need one of those shortcuts simply open the Unused Desktop Icons folder and there they are.
